Enlisted, Raising Hope: Good News, Bad News?

Raising HopeThough Enlisted has been a ratings disappointment, FOX isn’t ready to give up on it yet. Network chairman Kevin Reilly recently said that the network will stick with the series through its 13 episode season.

Now, FOX has announced that Enlisted is moving from Fridays at 9:30pm to 9pm, giving the series a stronger lead-in with Bones. The venerable crime drama has been averaging a 1.5 in the demo and 6.31 million viewers since moving to Fridays and is expected to be renewed for a 10th season.

Raising Hope has been losing most of its lead-in audience, averaging just a 0.7 in the demo with 2.21 million. Enlisted has essentially been holding onto all of Hope’s lead-in audience so the time switch could help.

This seems like it could be a bad sign for Raising Hope. While the sitcom is co-produced by the 20th Century Fox Television, it will have 88 episodes by the end of the season — enough for a moderate syndication package.

The network could conceivably keep the series going for a fifth season to add to the package or could decide they have enough. It seems likely that the change in timeslot won’t help Hope’s ratings — or its chances for a fifth season.

What do you think? Is Enlisted worth FOX’s effort? Should Raising Hope be renewed?
