Some big names are coming to Showtime. Variety reports Benicio del Toro, Patricia Arquette, and Paul Dano have joined the network’s upcoming TV series Escape at Dannemora.
Formerly titled Escape at Clinton Correctional, the eight-part drama “is based on the real-life 2015 prison break in upstate New York in the summer of 2015, which spawned a massive manhunt for two convicted murderers who were aided in their escape by a married female prison employee with whom they both became sexually entangled.”
Del Toro will play Richard Matt, a convicted murderer who plans the prison escape. Meanwhile, Arquette has been cast as the female prison employee, Tilly Mitchell, and Dano “will play David Sweat, a convicted cop-killer who uses his good looks to seduce Tilly and becomes a reluctant partner in Richard Matt’s plot.”
Escape at Dannemora will be directed by Ben Stiller. Showtime has not yet announced a premiere date.
