‘ESCAPING POLYGAMY’ RETURNS FOR A POWERFUL SECOND SEASON ON
A&E NETWORK SUNDAY, JULY 10 AT 10PM ET/PTDOCUSERIES FOLLOWS THREE YOUNG SISTERS WHO HAVE FLED THE RECENTLY FBI RAIDED KINGSTON POLYGAMIST CLAN AND NOW HELP OTHERS ESCAPE
NEW YORK, NY – JUNE 16, 2016 – The original docuseries ‘Escaping Polygamy’ returns for a powerful second season on A&E following three sisters who have left polygamy and now help others break free from the often dangerous and abusive lifestyle. Season two of ‘Escaping Polygamy’ premieres on Sunday, July 10 at 10PM ET/PT.
As young girls, sisters Andrea, Jessica and Shanell bravely left the Kingston clan, a powerful polygamist group based in Salt Lake City, Utah known as The Order. Now, more than 10 years later, the sisters are dedicated to helping other men, women and children escape the polygamous sect in which they were born and raised, and ultimately manage new lives on the outside. In each one hour episode, the sisters work with friends and strangers alike who are in various stages of leaving polygamy – some just recognizing the need to leave, others actively seeking to breakout, and those struggling to adjust to the sometimes harsh realities of the real world.
This season is shaped by the significant impact that the sisters’ work has had on destabilizing the leadership of The Order, including that of their own father, Daniel Kingston. The women embark on several dramatic and emotional rescues including a deeply personal escape when Jessica and Andrea help get their 18-year-old full sister, Jennifer, out of The Order, and out of Utah, before their father can find her and pull her back in. Other stories this season include a tenacious infiltration of the FLDS compound where a daughter of the notorious self-proclaimed prophet Warren Jeffs searches for her sister who has gone into hiding, an inside look at the high-stakes FBI raid on the Kingston clan that made national headlines earlier this year and the “mole” from season one, who has been secretly sharing information from inside the Kingston clan, faces a critical turning point — is it too dangerous to stay inside, or too dangerous to leave?
With each story, viewers will see that escaping polygamy is an ongoing and often treacherous journey. Those who dare to renounce this way of life face challenging emotional obstacles long after they’ve physically left. Largely shunned by their communities, with their faith and family changed forever, there is often a strong temptation to return to the only world they have ever known. It is through the continued guidance and support of Andrea, Jessica and Shanell that these victims begin to create a new community and support system separate from the world they left behind.
