Former professional football player Woodrow “Wood” Newton (Burt Reynolds) returns to Evening Shade, Arkansas to coach the Mules, his old high school football team that’s been on two-year losing streak. Wood’s wife Ava Evans Newton (Marilu Henner) is the town’s prosecuting attorney and together, they raise their four children; Taylor (Jay R. Ferguson), Molly Newton (Melissa Renee Martin, later Candace Hutson), Will (Jacob Parker), and Emily (Alexa Vega).
