The Family has been cancelled by ABC, but there is still one episode left to air. Check out these photos and the description for “What Took So Long.” The Family TV series finale airs tonight, May 15, 2016 at 9:00pm ET/PT, on ABC.
The Family stars Joan Allen stars as Claire Warren, Alison Pill as Willa Warren, Rupert Graves as John Warren, and Zach Gilford as Danny Warren. Margot Bingham is Detective Nina Meyer. Liam James is Ben/Adam Warren. Andrew McCarthy is Hank Asher. Floriana Lima is Bridey Cruz. Young Willa and Danny are played by Madeleine Arthur and Rarmian Newton.
Guest starring are Felix Solis as Gus, Matthew Lawler as Agent Gabe Clements, Zoe Perry as Jane Cardone, Luke Slattery as Adam, and Ana Maria Jomoica as Agent Lisa Davis.

Claire finally realizes what Adam and Ben endured when she visits the hell hole-like tomb where they were kept, exploding with grief, anger and frustration. Meanwhile Jane looks to make a getaway as Nina closes in on Doug’s location, and Agent Clements’ time is running out. Hank comes face to face with his inner demons, and one phone call shatters Ben’s world, forcing him to tackle an uncertain destiny.
Jenna Bans wrote the story for The Family TV series finale, “What Took So Long.” The teleplay is by Elizabeth Craft and Sarah Fain. The episode was directed by Paul McGuigan.
The Family was canceled due to low ratings. As of the May 8th episode, the series averaged 0.83 in the 18-49 year-old viewer demographic and drew an average total audience of 3.276 million viewers. We have been tracking 25 scripted ABC series during the 2015-16 television season. Those numbers leave The Family ranked 21st out of 25, when sorted by both the demo and total average audience.
ABC cancelled The Family on Thursday, May 12, 2016, so this first season finale was not written as an intentional TV series finale. If the audience will get sufficient closure or satisfaction from “What Took So Long,” remains to be seen.
