Family Feud: The Richard Dawson Game Show Debuted 40 Years Ago

Family Feud

It’s time for the Family Feud! Today marks the 40th anniversary of the long-running game show’s premiere.

Created by Mark Goodson, the original series premiered on July 12th, 1976 with Richard Dawson as host and Gene Wood as the announcer. The show originally debuted on ABC and was re-launched on CBS in 1988. It has aired in syndication since 1999.

While Dawson left Family Feud in 1985, the series has gone on to feature several new hosts such as Ray Combs, Louie Anderson, John O’ Hurley, and current host Steve Harvey.

The game show remains popular, with over 50 versions airing across the world in countries like Australia, Germany, Indonesia, Thailand, Mexico, Russia, and the United Kingdom.
