TV show description:
Steven (Michael Gross) and Elyse (Meridith Baxter) Keaton were liberal hippies who met and fell in love in the 1960s. The two married and had three children who were far more conservative than their parents; a reversal of the typical parent-child dynamic.

The Keaton kids were ultra-Republican Alex (Michael J. Fox), fashion-focused Mallory (Justine Bateman), and tomboy Jennifer (Tina Yothers). During the sitcom’s third season, Elyse gave birth to a fourth child, Andrew. He was quickly aged to a preschooler (Brian Bonsall) who idolized Alex and followed in his older brother’s Ronald Reagan-loving footsteps.

Other characters include nerdy neighbor Erwin ‘Skippy’ Handelman (Marc Price) and Mallory’s boyfriend, monosyllabic artist Nick Moore (Scott Valentine).

Alex’s two main girlfriends during the series run are college art student Ellen Reed (Tracy Pollan, who later married Fox) and psychology major Lauren Miller (Courteney Cox).
