Fantasy Island: ‘De Plane’ From Classic Show to Be Auctioned

Fantasy Island TV show

“De plane! De plane!” Maxim reports the famous plane from Fantasy Island is being put up for auction soon.

Fantasy Island ran on ABC from 1977 to 1984. The series starred Ricardo Montalban and Hervé Villechaize.

The plane, a 1967 Grumman Widgeon, became famous due to Villechaize’s catchphrase in the series’ opening credits: “The plane! The plane!”

From auction chief Jim Cox:

After the TV series ended, the Widgeon was passed from one owner to another, hopping from New Mexico to Texas to Florida. It ‘took a nosedive’ in the mid-1980’s when it was confiscated by the Oklahoma Bureau of Narcotics because the pilot was using it to smuggle drugs!”

The auction will take place April 15-16 at the Branson Convention Center in downtown Branson, MO.

What do you think? Did you watch Fantasy Island? Would you buy the plane? What other TV memorabilia would you buy?
