Season two of Fargo ended just over a month ago. During the winter Television Critics Association press tour this month, showrunner Noah Hawley discussed plans for season three.
Earlier, we reported that season three would be delayed due to the series’ production schedule.
During the press conference, Hawley revealed that season three will debut in 2017 and it will take place in 2010. Season two was set in 1979 while the first season took place in 2006.
Hawley also said the new season will not feature any of the lead characters from season one as leads once again. However, he did tease, along with FX chief John Landgraf, that there may be the possibility of one character crossover.
Hawley added that the more contemporary setting of season three will definitely be addressed in the show:
Our first year was set in 2006, but we didn’t really deal with what it’s like to be in that region in a more contemporary world. I like the idea that we’re now living in a very selfie-oriented culture — people photograph what they’re eating and put it up for other people to see — it feels like a social dynamic that is very antithetical to the Lutheran pragmatism of the region. So much of our crime stories are based around the difficulty people have expressing themselves and communicating.”
