Will season three be the end of Fargo? Recently, showrunner Noah Hawley discussed the future of the FX TV show, Deadline reports.
Season three of the anthology drama takes place in 2010 and follows the sibling rivalry between Emmit (Ewan McGregor) the “Parking Lot King of Minnesota,” and his younger brother Ray Stussy (also McGregor), a pot-bellied parole officer. The cast also includes Carrie Coon, Michael Stuhlbarg, David Thewlis, Goran Bogdan, Andy Yu, and Mary Elizabeth Winstead.
During a recent panel at the ATX Television Festival, Hawley said he doesn’t know if there will be a fourth season of Fargo:
I wasn’t sure if there would be a second season. I wasn’t sure if there would be a third season. At end of season 1, [FX] said, ‘If you want to leave it there [that would be fine]. There’s only a certain amount of storytelling you can tell in that vein. And I love telling stories in this vein, but I don’t have another one yet. So watch the 10th hour [of season 3] because it might be the last.”
Though ratings have waned over the past couple seasons, Fargo is still doing okay. So far, season three is averaging a .30 rating in the 18-49 demo and 1.112 million viewers. Those numbers are only about 15% down from season two.
However, Hawley may just be too busy for a fourth season. Currently, he also serves as an executive producer on the FX series Legion.
