Who was your favorite Frasier character? Recently, cast members from the classic NBC sitcom reunited for the network’s upcoming tribute to TV director James Burrows.
Stars from other classic sitcoms like Friends, Taxi, Cheers, and Will & Grace will also make an appearance in the special.
Burrows began directing television in the 1970s. He then went on to direct some of the most popular TV comedies of the past 30 years in addition to co-creating Cheers.
In an interview with Andy Cohen, Frasier stars David Hyde Pierce, Jane Leeves, and Peri Gilpin discussed the influence of Burrows on their show and themselves as actors. Hyde Pierce said the director is responsible for some of his character’s trademark traits:
Right before I sit down, Jimmy says, ‘What happens if you take out your handkerchief and wipe off the chair?’ And that gesture not only became a signature gesture for the character, it was also an indication … of how this isn’t just words – amazing words that we have – it’s also about physical behavior. And as you see in all the shows, he lives for that, those incredible physical bits.”
Cohen then asked the cast who should’ve gotten a spin-off from Frasier. The answer was unanimous:
Eddie, the dog.”
Must See TV: An All-Star Tribute to James Burrows airs on February 21st at 9 p.m. ET/PT.
