Friday Night Lights TV show on NBC: season 5 canceled; no season 6; Friday Night Lights TV show reunion.

Why was the cast of a football series not allowed to play football? Earlier this year, the cast of Friday Night Lights explained why they were banned from playing flag football during shooting, EW reports.

Developed by Peter Berg, the drama followed the inhabitants of a small Texas town obsessed with its high school football team. The cast included Kyle Chandler, Connie Britton, Zach Gilford, Minka Kelly, Taylor Kitsch, Scott Porter, and Jesse Plemons.

During the show’s 10-year reunion panel at the ATX Festival, Scott Porter said they were banned from playing flag football off camera because of a serious injury while shooting:

We used to play flag football out here, not while we were working. But we would come out on our own to this field and sneak in. And Jesse tore his ACL with [Taylor] Kitsch covering him, going, ‘Show me what you got. Come on, Plemons. Give it to me, let’s go. And then he tore his ACL and production found out and we were banned from ever coming back here.”

The full Friday Night Lights reunion panel is available on EW’s new series EW Reunites the Cast Of.

What do you think? Are you a fan of Friday Night Lights? Would you watch some kind of reunion/revival special?
