Clear eyes. Full hearts. Raised voices. Scott Porter, who played QB Jason Street on the Friday Night Lights TV series is playing Coach Taylor (Kyle Chandler’s role), in the Unauthorized Friday Night Lights Musical, from Sucker Love Productions. Now, Porter is talking about the nature of the show — an homage to the beloved series, which was cancelled after five seasons on NBC.

Per Zap2It, Porter said, “I think a lot of people out there are expecting it to be something that it’s not. We aren’t going to have a bunch of singer/dancers in football uniforms singing a song called ‘Mud Bowl.’ That’s not what it’s going to be. What we really do is pay homage to the music that was on the show, as opposed to reenacting it set to music.”

In the interview, Porter discusses the importance of the music on the TV series. Here is more from Zap2It:

He elaborates that it will be actors coming on stage and performing small vignettes that will set up songs that were used in the show, like “Devil Town” by Tony Lucca or “Read My Mind (Like Rebel Diamonds)” by The Killers.

Porter isn’t sure he’s allowed to say just how much of the five-season show the musical will touch on, but he adds that it will be “a very cool homage to the music that was so important on a show like ‘Friday Night Lights.’”

The FNL Musical Twitter page has put out sneak peeks at the script, which confirm Porter’s take on the production. Actress Molly McCook (Tyra Collette) and Buzzfeed‘s Jared Wieselman are also in the musical’s cast. Wieselman is playing showrunner Jason Katims.
