Game of Thrones: Final Scripts Finished; No Word on Airdate

Game of Thrones TV show on HBO: season 8 (canceled or renewed?)

The end is nigh. HBO programming president Casey Bloys says all six scripts for the eighth and final season of the Game of Thrones TV show are complete. During the Television Critics Association’s summer press tour Bloys announced that HBO is now figuring out the shooting logistics and production schedule. According to The Wrap, they still haven’t determined whether they will air it in 2018 or 2019.

Game of Thrones, season seven, just premiered on July 16th. The HBO fantasy drama stars Peter Dinklage, Nikolaj Coster-Waldau, Lena Headey, Emilia Clarke, Aidan Gillen, Kit Harington, Diana Rigg, Sophie Turner, and Maisie Williams. The cast also includes Alfie Allen, John Bradley, Gwendoline Christie, Liam Cunningham, Nathalie Emmanuel, Jerome Flynn, Iain Glen, Isaac Hempstead Wright, Conleth Hill, Kristofer Hivju, Hannah Murray, Carice van Houten, Indira Varma, Pilou Asbaek, Rory McCann, and Richard Dormer.

Here’s more from The Wrap:

“It’s a big season,” [Bloys] explained. “So they’re trying to get a sense of how long they’re going to take to film this.”

Sound designer Paula Fairfield also revealed at the fan convention Con of Thrones earlier this month that the final episodes could potentially be feature-length, though that won’t be determined until production begins.

The Season 7 finale, airing Aug. 27, will have a runtime of 82 minutes.

“I imagine they’ll be longer but … I’m not sure [how long],” Bloys said on Wednesday. “We haven’t had that discussion yet because I don’t know how long the episodes are going to be. Two hours per episode seems like it would be excessive, but it’s a great show, so who knows?”

Game of Thrones airs on HBO on Sundays at 9:00pm ET/PT.
