Last year, after creators David Benioff and D.B. Weiss announced their plan to end Game of Thrones with its eighth season, HBO programming boss Casey Bloys confirmed that would be indeed the end. There’s no need to worry that the show will be cancelled so, why track the ratings? Well, it’s fun. It keeps us off the street. And most of all, it’s a high water mark against which we can measure the success of other HBO TV series.
Based on A Song of Ice and Fire, the best-selling George R.R. Martin book series, Game of Thrones stars Peter Dinklage, Nikolaj Coster-Waldau, Lena Headey, Emilia Clarke, Aidan Gillen, Kit Harington, Diana Rigg, Sophie Turner, and Maisie Williams. The cast also includes Alfie Allen, John Bradley, Gwendoline Christie, Liam Cunningham, Nathalie Emmanuel, Jerome Flynn, Iain Glen, Isaac Hempstead Wright, Conleth Hill, Kristofer Hivju, Hannah Murray, Carice van Houten, Indira Varma, Pilou Asbaek, Rory McCann, and Richard Dormer.
The drama is an epic story of treachery and nobility in a savage world — a place where summers and winters can last for years and the lust for power is eternal. In the seventh season, winter is here. As old alliances crumble and new ones form, an army of the dead marches on the Wall, and could very well end the game of thrones forever.
The ratings are typically the best indication of a show’s chances of staying on the air but barring some unforeseen catastrophe, cancellation is not in the cards for this HBO TV series. This chart will be updated as new ratings data becomes available.
