Game of Thrones will return to HBO next Sunday night, and fans need to prepare for more than the return of the series, according to the men behind it. The end for this series is near. In fact, there may be only 13 episodes left of Game of Thrones once season six wraps.
According to Entertainment Weekly, David Benioff, one of the showrunners of the HBO series said that, “We’ve known for several years now how many hours, roughly, we want it to go. It hasn’t changed.”
What was that number? It was reported that the series was always planned for 73 hours. That means after season six, there will be only 13 episodes left. Seven episodes would air for season seven, and season eight would consist of only six episodes.
Michael Lombardo, HBO’s entertainment president, said the following about the plan:
“In every conversation, that’s been [the showrunners’] thinking. It will be interesting to see how strongly they feel about being definitive about that when we are in a position to announce seasons 7 and 8.”
Fans will need to wait a bit to find out what HBO and the team behind Game of Thrones comes up with for after season six.
