Game of Thrones: Season Seven Production Delayed

Winter is coming, but not soon enough. Production on the seventh season of HBO‘s Game of Thrones TV show has been delayed not by dragons — but by the weather — of all things. Showrunners David Benioff and D.B. Weiss confessed during a UFC (Ultimate Fighting Championship) podcast, that filming the seventh season has been pushed out, in order to better depict winter in Westeros.

Game of Thrones season seven does not yet have an air date. Filming is slated for later, because the winter that has been looming for six seasons has finally arrived. The duo acknowledged, “Sunny weather doesn’t really serve our purposes any more. We kind of pushed everything down the line so we could get some grim, grey weather, even in the sunnier places that we shoot.” The fantasy drama series stars Peter Dinklage, Lena Headey, Emilia Clarke, Kit Harrington, Sophie Turner, Maisie Williams, and Nikolaj Coster-Waldau.

Typically, new seasons of Game of Thrones have debuted between the end of March and late April. The upcoming seventh and penultimate season will be shorter than the previous six. The Game of Thrones sixth season finale marked episode 60 of the fantasy drama series.

Benioff and Weiss have been fairly consistent about needing another 13 episodes (give or take) to give Game of Thrones a proper TV series finale. Our wild guestimate: expect Game of Thrones, season seven, to premiere sometime in May, 2017.
