It seems there may be life in the old girl yet. While Disney Channel has cancelled the Girl Meets World TV show after three installments, there is still a chance fans will get a fourth season, although not on either Disney Channel or Freeform.

The Girl Meets World creator Michael Jacobs told TV Line, “There are talks underway, but we’re at the very very beginning stages.”  The Boy Meets World sequel series stars Rowan Blanchard, Sabrina Carpenter, Ben Savage, Peyton Meyer, August Maturo, Danielle Fishel, and Corey Fogelmanis.

Will There Be a Girl Meets World Season Four

Jacobs added, “And I can tell you it’s because of the audience’s reaction to the cancellation that there is interest in other places. For anyone in show business, if you ask them why they’re doing something and they say they’re doing it for themselves, they won’t sustain long. Those that answer ‘We’re doing it for the audience’ and mean it, they sustain.”

Why Disney Channel Cancelled Girl Meets World

It seems, according to a Deadline report, that Disney Channel‘s problem with the popular Girl Meets World TV series was its demographics. While major broadcast networks target the usually coveted 18-49 year old viewer demo, many cable channels service niche audiences.

Disney Channel’s target demo is Kids 6-14. In other words, companies advertising on the cable channel are looking for viewers in that age bracket. Despite a steady Live+same viewership in the 1.7-1.8 million range, the news outlet says, “Girl Meets World was the network’s #5 series in Kids 6-11 and #3 in Tweens 9-14 for 2016.”

Because Girl Meets World was a sequel series, it drew a lot of fans of the original sitcom, Boy Meets World. That show first ran on ABC from 1993 to 2000, so its fans are no longer kids. Consequently, Girl Meets World‘s built-in audience skews older than Disney Channel’s target demo.

Could Netflix Renew Girl Meets World for Season Four?

Deadline says that while Netflix has been approached about picking up Girl Meets World season four, it is not (yet?) in talks to do so. Still, it seems the streaming service might the show’s best hope for a fourth season pickup.

Since Netflix is not ad-supported, it cares about total subscribers, rather than viewer demographics. Fans, therefore, are currently conducting a #GirlMeetsNetflix social media campaign.

What do you think? Do you want a fourth season of the Girl Meets World TV series? Do you think Netflix should pick up the series, or would you rather see it land somewhere else? Let us know, below.
