Girls: EPs Discuss the HBO Finale and Revival Talk

Girls TV show on HBO: ending season 6; no season 7 (canceled or renewed?)

After six seasons, Girls aired its series finale last night. Recently, executive producers Lena Dunham and Jenni Konner spoke with Entertainment Weekly about the end of the HBO TV show.

The dramatic comedy revolves around a group of twenty-somethings who live in Brooklyn and are figuring out how to make their way in the world. The cast includes Dunham, Allison Williams, Jemima Kirke, Zosia Mamet, Adam Driver, Alex Karpovsky, Andrew Rannells, and Ebon Moss-Bachrach.

WARNING: GIRLS SPOILERS AHEAD!

In the interview, Konner said the series finale was about seeing Hannah finally mature:

It was a very emotional story to tell. All of a sudden, Hannah — accused of narcissism every second of her life and rightfully so — now has real stakes to think about. It’s a mature move to leave the city. She came, she tried it, and this is the right choice for her and her child. It’s mature to leave at an age when you all promise each other in some secret vow that you are going to stay in New York and tough it out no matter how hard it is.”

What about a revival of some sort? Konner says her and Dunham are open to a movie down the road:

People ask us in interviews, “Would you be open to a movie?” Of course we would! But that is as far as that rumor has gone. It’s not like there are any conversations happening. I also think it would have to be a little while. We couldn’t even do the finale without jumping in time a little.  If we came back, there would have to be a good amount of time passed.”

And what’s next for the Konner and Dunham? The latter revealed there’s a comedy in the works:

I’ll say that I do think it’s kind of perfect because it’s the kind of comedy that we are known for and also taking a leap forward contentwise, so we are pretty stoked.”

What do you think? Are you a fan of Girls? Did you find the ending satisfying?
