EW reports that, despite the show being held until mid-season, there will still be a full season of 22 episodes. TVLine reports that Fox Chairman Kevin Reilly says that number may trimmed, depending on how many the network needs and how many Glee creator Ryan Murphy needs to end the series.
In a conference call, Reilly remarked that, “there is no standard [full season episode] order for a show anymore.” He said, “We need to sit down with Ryan Murphy on how to end it… The advantage of airing it later in the season is that it doesn’t have to feel the pressure of delivering.”
Now that the show’s ratings have really dropped, does he regret renewing the series for seasons five and six? Reilly noted, “It was really a business decision… We sat down with Ryan and heard creatively where he it was going. Ryan had a good beat.”
