The Good Wife will end its run on CBS later tonight, and the creators have been talking about the end and looking back at the beginning. They are hoping that their fans will want to do the same with the series after the final credits role later tonight.
In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, the creators of the show, Michelle and Robert King, teased the end. Robert King said the following about the finale:
“It should be surprising but inevitable. That’s a very difficult bar to hit, so… be kind. I hope viewers will feel like they want to start at the beginning of the series again. I hope it’s like Finnegans Wake, where the end leads them right back to the beginning.”
As for the legacy of the popular series, Robert King also had something to say about that when he was asked. He said:
“Yikes, that’s hard to think about. I do think people will think of the show in terms of its multidimensional female characters. It might also be thought of as a gravestone on the 22-episodes-a-year paradigm. 22 a year is just too difficult, too backbreaking. But it would be nice if people thought of it in terms of its cynicism and its comedy; that’s what we found most fun.”
Fans of The Good Wife were shocked to learn that this was the final season of the series, but the creators will have new material for them to watch. Brain Dead is set to premiere this summer.
