Fans of The Good Wife are a month away from the arrival of The Good Fight – the spin-off set to premiere on February 19.

Gary Cole appeared on The Good Wife over its lifespan as Diane’s husband, and he will be back for the CBS All Access series. He spoke about the finale of The Good Wife and the new series in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter.

His character played a major role in the finale. Alicia accused him of cheating to clear her husband. He said the following about his role:

“Everything was designed to get to that because that image was very, very powerful. It had more to do with the show as a whole more than it had to do with Diane and Kurt’s relationship isolated from that. I think the purpose of that, that they were splintered, was that everything was splintering. Everybody’s lives were being disrupted and it didn’t come to any good conclusion.”

As for the spin-off, he played coy when he was asked about the status of Kurt’s and Diane’s relationship. He only revealed that his character would be seen again. He said the following:

“I don’t know where she’s headed or where this relationship is headed. The scenes we had were basically our introduction into this new situation she has. They are connected so whatever state their relationship is in, if it’s splitting apart or if it’s under stress or whatever it is, it’s just another part of her life that they can look at.”

He also confirmed that the spin-off will differ in vocabulary from the original CBS series. He teased that there is “a little bit of vocabulary that you wouldn’t see in a script for CBS the network. But there didn’t seem to be a big difference between what you’d see for the old show as opposed to this other than a few choice four-letter words.”
