Series Finale:
Episode #121 — New York, I Love You XOXO
At the end of the previous episode, Bart Bass fell off the roof to his death, following an argument and his taking a swing at his son. Chuck had the opportunity to save his father but didn’t and watched him fall. Chuck and Blair quickly leave the hotel, hide in the trunk of their limo (with help from Georgina Sparks), and flee to an inn room upstate.

The next morning, Chuck’s Uncle Jack (Desmond Harrington) tracks them down and offers to help Chuck, who is now a “person of interest” in the case. Because Blair was present and could be questioned by the police and accidentally say something incriminating against Chuck, they decide to get married. Because of “spousal privilege,” spouses can’t be forced to testify against each other in court. Chuck proposes to Blair using the ring hanging around her neck and she accepts.

Serena discovers the alternate chapter that Dan wrote and put in her bag as she leaves for Los Angeles. She reads the chapter and decides to stay in New York to confront him. He recalls when he first fell in love with her and tells her about Gossip Girl.

William van der Woodsen shows up to support Lily Bass following the death of Bart. Ivy arrives and William pretends that he hasn’t seen her since CeCe Rhodes’ funeral. He tells her that he used her to get back to Lily.

With Bart Bass dead, Nate is running The Spectator and decides to finally uncover the identity of Gossip Girl. Jack and Georgina put together the arrangements for Chuck and Blair’s wedding. The group gathers for the wedding at the museum. Gossip Girl is tipped off but strangely doesn’t release the news so the police are notified by the young tipsters.

Prior to the ceremony, Serena and Blair have a conversation about why she’s still talking to Dan after what he’s published about her. Blair says that he’ll never be one of them. Dan arrives with the bouquet and overhears their conversation. Dan leaves, gives the flowers to Georgina, and gives Nate his final chapter — the truth about Gossip Girl.

Blair and Chuck are married by Cyrus, moments before the police rush in and take the bride and groom away for questioning. Moments later, the group all receive notifications that Dan’s chapter has been published and they learn that he is Gossip Girl. Nate had already figured it out.

We see Vanessa, Juliet, Agnes, Lola, actress Kristen Bell (the voice of Gossip Girl), actress Rachel Bilson, and New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg react to the big reveal.

Later, Chuck and Blair are released and no charges are brought against them. Dan explains that, as an outsider who’d done a lot of observing, it was easy for him to mimic the voice of privileged teens and it was a way for him to write himself into their world. His father is quite upset but Dan notes that Jenny knew his secret identity all along and sometimes fed him information. Though some others are upset, they all take the news fairly well and look forward to what the future will hold for them.

Five years later, we see that it’s the day of Dan and Serena’s wedding at the home of Chuck and Blair. They are now parents of a stylish son named Henry. As the publisher of the successful Spectator, Nate is considering a run for Mayor of New York.

Ivy has written a book about her career as a con artist in the Upper East Side. It becomes a film, starring both Lola and Olivia Burke. Lola’s dream has come true. Jenny and Blair have become business partners in the fashion world and own a clothing line called “J for Waldorf”.

Lily and William and Rufus and Lisa Loeb are all back together. Eric returns for his sister’s big day. Jack and Georgina have also become a couple. The final scene ends with an introduction of the new generation of high school kids on the Upper East Side, complete with all of the same sorts of characters.

As the show ends, we hear the voice of Gossip Girl saying “You may be rid of Dan Humphrey, but you’ll never be rid of me. There will always be someone on the outside wanting to get in. Who am I now? That’s one secret I’ll never tell. xoxo, Gossip Girl”
First aired: December 17, 2012.
