The Great Indoors: Season One Ratings

Joel McHale’s last sitcom, Community, was never a hit in the ratings but it lasted for six seasons between NBC and Yahoo. His new series, The Great Indoors, is airing on CBS and that network has much less tolerance for low-rated sitcoms. Will this new show be cancelled or will it be renewed for a second season? Stay tuned.

The Great Indoors follows an adventurous magazine reporter (Joel McHale). His world is turned upside down when the magazine goes online-only and he’s assigned to head the digital department. He must learn to supervise a young staff of Millenials who speak a language he can barely understand. The rest of the cast includes Stephen Fry, Susannah Fielding, Christopher Mintz-Plasse, Shaun Brown, Christine Ko, and Chris Williams.

The ratings are typically the best indication of a show’s likelihood of staying on the air. The higher the ratings (particularly the 18-49 demo), the better the chances for survival. Typically, networks get paid for C+3 ratings which includes DVR viewing within three days of the original airing when commercials are watched. Those numbers are rarely released to the press.
