Stephen Fry will co-star in The Great Indoors TV series pilot at CBS. Fry has been cast in the role of Antonio, opposite the cancelled Community‘s Joel McHale. Christopher Mintz-Plasse, Shaun Brown, and Christine Ko are also in the cast.
Deadline says Fry’s Antonio is, “…the charismatic founder of ‘The Great Outdoors’ magazine, and a world traveler, explorer and adventurer. The employee-boss dynamic between Joel and Antonio is compared to that between Tina Fey’s Liz Lemon and Alec Baldwin’s Jack Donaghy on NBC‘s 30 Rock.”
McHale’s character, Joel, is described as “an adventure reporter who must adapt to the times when he becomes the boss to a group of millennials in the digital department of the magazine.” The role was reportedly written with the actor in mind.
Mintz-Plasse has been cast as Joel’s coworker, Clark. Deadline describes that character as “…a tech/nerd survivalist who knows everything about surviving at sea, in the woods and on Mars but hasn’t left downtown in five years.”
Per Deadline, Brown has nabbed the role of Dwayne, “Joel’s new colleague in the magazine’s digital department, a hip and obnoxiously peppy “urban outdoorsman” who has actually spent zero time outside.”
According to reports, Ko has been cast in the role of Emma, described as “…the magazine’s millennial social media expert who views Joel (Joel McHale) as an out-of-touch relic from another time.”
A multi-cam comedy, The Great Indoors comes from writer Mike Gibbons, who is executive producing. Gibbons executive produces Tosh.0 and was a co-executive producer on The Late Late Show with James Corden. He also produced The Late Late Show with Craig Kilborn and The Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson.
How I Met Your Mother‘s Chris Harris is set as showrunner and executive producer. Harris was a writer on the Late Show with David Letterman.
