Hannah Montana: Miley Cyrus Series to End — No Season Five?

In television, most shows end up being cancelled while a few finish on their own terms. Apparently pop sensation Miley Cyrus has decided to say goodbye to the Disney Channel series that made her a star.

Hannah Montana revolves around Miley Stewart (Miley Cyrus), an average high schooler. Unbeknownst to her classmates, she has a dual identity as popular singer Hannah Montana. Raised in Tennessee, Miley now lives in Malibu with her father and manager, Robby Stewart (real-life dad Billy Ray Cyrus), and her brother Jackson (Jason Earles). Miley’s family and friends like Lilly (Emily Osment) and Oliver (Mitchel Musso) are among the few who know Hannah Montana’s true identity.

The series debuted on March 24, 2006 and became a huge success for the Disney Channel. By the end of the year, Disney had announced plans for dozens of Hannah Montana products and the number has only grown from there. Miley Cyrus’ music career has also taken off, following the October 2006 release of a Hannah Montana soundtrack CD. That’s paved the way for several more successful albums, a concert, and a feature film.

But, with Miley Cyrus getting older and wanting to move on to do other things, the young star apparently feels like it’s time for Hannah Montana to come to an end. Rumors have been circulating that season three would be the end but she recently signed on for season four. According to Billy Ray though, there won’t be a fifth season.

In a recent interview with Access Hollywood, Miley’s father confirmed that season four would be the last year for the series. He also commended his daughter for wanting to end the show in the right way.

He said, “Quite frankly, I give a lot of credit to Miley for taking it to another year. She didn’t want it to just end with whatever was the last episode we did. She wanted it to build to where there’s a moral to the story, to where it doesn’t just end and go away and that’s it. She wanted there to be an official ending to Hannah Montana.”

The final season of Hannah Montana is set to begin filming in January and will be completed by early June. For season four, there will be just 11 half-hour episodes before the show wraps up with a special one-hour installment. It’s expected that they’ll begin airing in 2010.

So, will that be truly be the end of the industry phenomenon known as Hannah Montana? Maybe not. Billy Ray laughed, “Anything is possible in Hollywood.”
