Happy Days and The Andy Griffith Show: Ron Howard Resurrects Iconic TV Characters

This year’s presidential election has certainly become very heated. As is usually the case, some celebrities have made a point of publicly supporting their personal choice for their Commander in Chief. One can assume they’re hoping to influence the votes of the public. Director Ron Howard has generally stayed away from the political fray — until now.

In an interesting video, Howard makes his case for why it’s so important to vote for Barack Obama. To do this, he joins with his former costars Andy Griffith and Henry Winkler and they resurrect their iconic TV characters — Opie and Andy Taylor from The Andy Griffith Show and Richie Cunningham and The Fonz from Happy Days.

Howard and Griffith haven’t played their roles since the Return to Mayberry reunion movie in 1986. Winkler and Howard haven’t played their Happy Days characters since the sitcom’s last episode in 1984.

The short is certainly a bit silly but must have taken a substantial amount of time, money, and effort to put together. For that alone, it’s hard to doubt Howard’s convictions. And, whether you agree or disagree with their politics, it’s certainly fun to see these actors play their iconic characters once again.
