- Doug Benson, Bruce Smith, JASH’s Daniel Kellison and Propagate’s Howard Owens, Ben Silverman and Kevin Healey Set to Executive Produce.
- Fifteen Minute Strip Series Set to Premiere in 1Q.
NEW YORK, October 18, 2016 – Real cases. Real plaintiffs. Real high judge. The “highest court in the land” just took on a new meaning in “The High Court,” a new Comedy Central series from comedian Doug Benson, it was announced today by Kent Alterman, President, Comedy Central. Set to premiere in early 2017, “THC,” is a fifteen-minute strip series featuring “Judge Doug” as he gets high and rules on real small claims court cases. Executive produced by Benson, Bruce Smith, JASH’s Daniel Kellison and Propagate’s Ben Silverman, Howard Owens and Kevin Healey, “The High Court” concept is loosely born from Benson and JASH’s popular YouTube show, “Getting Doug with High.”
“I never knew Doug got high, until one time I saw him, and he wasn’t,” said Alterman.
Said Benson: “Got a f-ed up legal problem? Who better to solve it than someone who is super f-ed up?”
“The High Court” features comedian Doug Benson (Getting Doug with High, “@midnight”), presiding over the highest court in the land as he adjudicates real small claims court cases. Both parties agree in advance to have the case settled in The High Court as “Judge Doug” hears both sides and then retires to his chambers with a guest bailiff to get very stoned and deliberate. All decisions rendered in “The High Court” by Judge Doug are highly binding. Gary Mann and Daniel Wolfberg are the Executives in Charge of Production for Comedy Central. JASH and Propagate will co-produce the series.
Benson is a comedian, actor and marijuana advocate who hosts the podcasts “Getting Doug with High” and “Doug Loves Movies.” He is a regular guest on Comedy Central’s late-night series “@midnight with Chris Hardwick” and has appeared on the Comedy Central series “The Benson Interruption,” “Comedy Central Presents,” and “Live at Gotham.” He has released four Comedy Central Records including, “Unbalanced Load,” “Hypocritical Oaf,” “Potty Mouth,” and “Smug Life.” Benson has also appeared in his documentary film “Super High Me,” as well as in VH1’s “Best Week Ever,” and the fifth season of NBC’s “Last Comic Standing.”

To be blunt, what is up with all the pot-centric shows? MTV has Mary + Jane. There’s HBO‘s High Maintenance. Kathy Bates’ Disjointed got a straight-to-series order at Netflix. John Malkovich has been cast in Humboldt, a drama featuring a marijuana crime family. Back in January, Kevin Smith shot Hollyweed on spec. And now we have The High Court. Have we missed any?
