How I Met Your Mother ended its run on CBS after nine seasons, and the finale caused a huge reaction with the fans. Some were not happy with how the series ended things for Ted. In the end, he went back to Robin, and that caused an uproar.
Josh Radnor spoke about the finale earlier this week during an interview with HuffPost Live. The actor is out promoting his new project, Mercy Street. During the interview, he was asked about the fan reaction to the finale, and he shared that he asks fans about the finale when he speaks at colleges. He said:
“A lot of [the reaction] was great. I think the narrative the media got ahold of was that everyone was outraged. I don’t think that was true. Sometimes it’s 50/50. It seems to be about 60/40 — 60 [percent] disappointed, 40 [percent who liked it]. So I think it’s been overstated, people’s disappointment with it.”
He also expressed his happiness with the ending. He thought it fit the show. He said:
“If Ted and Tracy walked off into the sunset together, I think people would have called it a soft or sentimental ending, or that it was a fairy tale. But something about “How I Met Your Mother” was it always upended your expectations, it always made you cry, it always was not what you thought it was. So I think it was in keeping with the DNA for the show. And my suspicion is that it will age pretty well, so let’s talk in 10 years and see what people think.”
