TV show description:
A young adult novel of the same name by Sasha Paley is the basis for this dramatic TV series. It follows seven teenagers that are sent to a weight-loss camp.

Willamina “Will” (Nikki Blonsky) knows that, even before she goes to camp, she’s not going to like it. She hides behind her caustic wit, but isn’t afraid to come out of hiding if the occasion suits her. Her parents sent her to camp against her will, making her determined to challenge the rules. She’ll do anything short of getting kicked out since she’s been threatened with boot camp if this doesn’t work out.

Camp Director, Dr. Dorothy Rand (Gina Torres) thinks highly of the service she’s providing at Camp Victory. She believes weight problems are health issues, not beauty issues, and understands those at the camp have problems that go beyond counting calories and exercising. She may seem really stern to the campers, but there is some softness there. With the level of understanding she has, it’s possible that maybe she was once heavy as well.

Amber (Hayley Hasselhoff) is Will’s bunkmate. She’s beautiful, more thin, and much more together than the others at the camp. This leads to her starting off on the wrong foot with Will. She gets “thinspiration” by looking at pictures of supermodels, trying to reach what could be an unreachable goal. She may have even more to prove than the others.

Alistair (Harvey Guillen) is a great guy — funny, sweet, and a little eccentric — but has big issues with his self esteem. He doesn’t like anything about himself, including his name. He compensates for it all with his sense of humor and sometimes an asthma attack. He’s become friends with musician Ian (Ari Stidham) and they often provide the comic relief around camp.

One of the thinnest girls at camp, Chlo Delgado (Ashley Holliday), has become popular there because of her size, but it hasn’t gone to head yet. She always tries to do the right thing, but is carrying around a secret she won’t share.

A returning camper, Becca Huffstatter (Raven Goodwin), lost 26 pounds last summer, then regained it all. She doesn’t mind being back at camp. She’s painfully shy, but tends to see the bright side of things, which works harmoniously with Will’s opposite personality.
