What kind of music would aliens listen to? Recently, The Wall Street Journal reported Syfy’s new alien-hunting series, Hunters, will integrate the popular music-streaming platform Spotify into the show’s plot.
Inspired by Whitley Strieber’s novel Alien Hunter, Hunters centers on a secret government agency tasked with hunting extraterrestrial terrorists.
While developing the script, Hunters executive producers Gale Anne Hurd and Natalie Chaidez were reportedly looking for a way to integrate brands into the series and also find a platform for aliens to communicate with. Spotify seemed to be the perfect answer:
It wasn’t a [marketing] strategy. It was a creative decision. We wrote it in the script, but we didn’t think we’d have the opportunity to work with them. Then we thought, can we get the real Spotify?”
In the series, aliens will use the music streaming platform to send secret messages to each other. Additionally, viewers will be able to stream curated playlists inspired by the series.
Hunters premieres on April 11th. Watch a preview below:
What do you think? Will you watch Hunters? Do you think more shows should integrate brands into their plots?
