I Can Do That: Cancel or Keep the New NBC Series?

I Can Do That TV show on NBC: cancel or renew for season 2?Airing on Tuesday nights, America’s Got Talent remains NBC’s biggest summer series. How’s its companion series, I Can Do That, been doing? Is it a hit as well? Should it be cancelled or reenwed for a second season?

Hosted by comedian Marlon Wayans, I Can Do That follows a group of performers as they try to learn new talents and showcase their skills in front of an audience each week. The celebrities include dancer and choreographer Cheryl Burke; recording artists Ciara, Joe Jonas and Nicole Scherzinger; stand-up comedian Jeff Dye; and actor Alan Ritchson.

The series debuted on May 26th to a 1.8 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 6.4 million viewers — not a bad start for a summer series. The ratings dropped about 16% in week two but then rose a bit in week three.

While I Can Do That certainly isn’t a hit, it’s performing pretty well for a summer series. Last year, The Night Shift, ran in the same post-AGT timeslot. That medical drama had worse demo numbers — the ratings that count most to the networks — and it was still renewed.

While the NBC execs could certainly cancel I Can Do That, I suspect its numbers are decent enough to give the series a second chance next summer.

But, what do you think? Do you like the I Can Do That TV show? If you ran the network, would you cancel or renew it for a second season?
