In The Flesh: Creator Open To Kickstarter Campaign For Film

In The Flesh Cancelled or Renewed

In The Flesh was cancelled by BBC3 last year, and the move angered loyal fans of the series. The reaction to the cancellation was so great that Dominic Mitchell, creator of the series, is willing to revisit the characters and the story if he can find the capital needed to bring the film to the big screen.

According to Radio Times, Mitchell teased the possibility of a film and a Kickstarter campaign with the publication. He saw how that worked for Veronica Mars, and he is definitely open to doing the same with In The Flesh.

“I’m a big fan of the TV series Veronica Mars, and the creator / writer Rob Thomas did something similar when the show was untimely cancelled and I thought the film worked really well in a number of ways. It stood by itself, meaning if you hadn’t watched the show you could still enjoy the movie as a first time viewer and if you had watched the series it was a joy to meet the characters and re-enter that world again. That’s what I would like to try and accomplish if In The Flesh became a feature film, make it accessible to new audiences while also satisfying the loyal fan base.”

Mitchell has only the basics of an idea in mind for a big screen version of In The Flesh, but he said he would like to “explore the parallel universe of In The Flesh. See how they handle PDS sufferers in the capital, in Scotland, in Wales, in the whole of Great Britain.”

He is excited about that idea. Mitchell realized that the show’s cancellation left a lot of unanswered questions, and he is hoping to tie those up if he is able to move forward with the project.
