From the outside, it looks like the Inside Amy Schumer TV show has been cancelled — although whether Comedy Central or the star herself did the deed — remains unclear. Schumer’s tweets (see below) seem to indicate the show has ended.
The fourth season finale aired on June 16, 2016, but it wasn’t billed as a series finale. Comedy Central gave Inside Amy Schumer an early fifth season renewal, back in January of this year — well before season four premiered in April.
UPDATE: Schumer clarifies Inside Amy Schumer is not cancelled. Find out how long she expects to be on hiatus.
In May, Viacom boss Doug Herzog said a sixth season of Inside Amy Schumer looked doubtful, because since Schumer’s career took off, she has become very busy. That’s fine, but how we get from a fifth season renewal, to news that the show may have already ended after four seasons?
It’s a messy story. It begins after a male comic was reportedly banned from the Upright Citizens Brigade (comedy group) in the wake of rape allegations.
Inside Amy Schumer writer and actor Kurt Metzger (who is not the accused comic in question) took to social media to express his opinion on how the other man’s ban came about.
That story lies well beyond the scope of this article and outside this website’s wheelhouse. For more information, check out Vulture and Mic.com.
Suffice it to say, people took issue with what Metzger said and how he said it. They tweeted their distaste to Schumer, asking the comedian why he had not been fired from the show. That’s where this Inside Amy Schumer cancellation story begins.
When Schumer finally addressed Metzger’s comments publicly, she tweeted, “I am so saddened and disappointed in Kurt Metzger. He is my friend and a great writer and I couldn’t be more against his recent actions.”
In response to growing calls for her to fire Metzger, Schumer then tweeted, “Kurt does not work for me. He is not a writer on my show. Please stop asking me about it. His words are not mine.”
People pointed out that Metzger is credited on all four seasons of the Inside Amy Schumer TV show. Hours later, Schumer posted, “I didn’t fire Kurt. He isn’t a writer for my show because we aren’t making the show anymore. There are no writers for it.”

Schumer then retweeted a fan who wrote, “@amyschumer You’re the best, and we’ll miss your show. And Twitter sucks sometimes..”

Comedy Central and Schumer have not responded to The Hollywood Reporter‘s, “…multiple requests for comment about the status of the show.”
