Creator Rob Thomas already has plans for a fourth season of his iZombie TV show, but will the supernatural procedural make it past its third season? Although it performed well enough to snag a season three renewal, the ratings did drop off quite a bit between its first and second installments. Will the numbers rise or fall further this year? Should iZombie be cancelled or renewed for season four? Stay tuned.
Loosely based on a comic book series, iZombie stars Rose McIver as zombie/medical examiner Liv Moore. The CW cast also includes Malcolm Goodwin, Rahul Kohli, Robert Buckley, David Anders, and Aly Michalka. In season three, Liv now knows there are more zombies in Seattle than she once thought. A private military contractor is building up a zombie army, to prepare for the day when humans realize zombies truly exist. This season will find Liv eating the brains of a dominatrix, a “Jackass” style stunt man, an office gossip, a pre-school teacher, a conspiracy theorist, a dungeon master, and more, and taking on their traits.
The ratings are typically the best indication of a show’s likelihood of staying on the air. The higher the ratings (particularly the 18-49 demo), the better the chances for survival. For comparisons: The second season of iZombie averaged a 0.53 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 1.330 million total viewers. It was down by 19.04% and 24.21%, compared to the season one ratings.
Note: These are the Live + Same Day Ratings which include “live” viewing plus delayed DVR viewing, up until 3am local time that same night. Ratings marked with an “*” are the fast affiliate ratings and will be updated with the Live+SD numbers when they are made available. Typically, networks get paid for C+3 ratings which includes DVR viewing within three days of the original airing when commercials are watched. Those numbers are rarely released to the press.
