Jimmy Kimmel Live!: Host Considering Ending the ABC Series

Jimmy Kimmel Live! TV show on ABC: (canceled or renewed?)

Is Jimmy Kimmel retiring? Recently, the host of Jimmy Kimmel Live! spoke with Variety about the future of the ABC late-night talk show.

Jimmy Kimmel Live! debuted on ABC in 2003. At 14 years old, it is the network’s longest-running late-night series. The show features celebrity interviews, musical performances, and stand-up comedy.

In the interview, Kimmel said his contract ends in 2019 and he is considering an exit:

I know I will do the show for another three years. It’s possible that will be it. My wife’s pregnant. At a certain point, I’d like to have a little more free time. I have very little free time as it is.”

While he didn’t say he’ll be leaving for sure, Kimmel did mention that when he does it will be on his own terms:

“I think this job is a grind, and best-cast scenario, a marathon. I want to go out on my own terms. If I ever feel like we’re repeating ourselves, I think it’s a good indication that it’s time.”

But what about after? Kimmel said he won’t be doing another late-night show:

If there’s something that excites me creatively, it doesn’t necessarily mean something in show business. I like to draw. I like to make sculptures. I’d like to write a book at some point. Doing the show every day doesn’t leave a lot of time for that.”

What do you think? Do you watch Jimmy Kimmel Live!? Do you think it’s time for the show to end?
