Why is Donna leaving Kevin Can Wait? Recently, executive producer Rob Long spoke with TVLine about Erinn Hayes exit from the CBS TV show.
In June, we reported that Hayes was fired from the show and replaced with Leah Remini. On the sitcom, she played Donna, the wife of Kevin James’ retired police officer Kevin Gable.
Earlier this month, it was revealed that Donna would be killed off Kevin Can Wait and season two will jump ahead in time. Speaking to TVLine, Long explained the decision to kill off Hayes’ character:
The goal was to give Kevin’s character a real drive and a real predicament [involving] how a family comes back together [after tragedy]. Also, out of respect for the character of Donna — and certainly the way that Erinn Hayes portrayed her — it seemed like the only right and fair way to treat her character.”
Season two of Kevin Can Wait premieres on CBS on September 25th at 9 p.m. ET/PT.
