The Knick: Cancelled; No Season Three for Cinemax Series

The Knick TV show on Cinemax: (canceled or renewed?)

It looks like the plug’s been pulled on The Knick. Deadline reports Cinemax has cancelled the TV series after two seasons.

From Steven Soderbergh, the drama was set in a New York City hospital circa 1900. The cast included Clive Owen, Andre Holland, Jeremy Bobb, Juliet Rylance, Eve Hewson, Michael Angarano, Chris Sullivan, Cara Seymour, Eric Johnson, David Fierro, and Matt Frewer.

Over the course of two seasons, The Knick never managed to earn high ratings. Season two of the drama received an average rating of .06 in the 18-49 demo and only 240,000 viewers. However, the show did receive considerable critical acclaim during its short run.

Nevertheless, Cinemax has decided to cancel the series. This week, the network released an official statement saying they are going to focus on “high-octane action dramas” instead:

After a critically acclaimed two-season run of The Knick on Cinemax, we will not be going forward with additional episodes of the series. Despite our pride in and affection for the series, as well as our respect for and gratitude towards Steven Soderbergh and his team, we have decided to return Cinemax to its original primetime series fare of high-octane action dramas, many of which will be internationally co-produced.”

What do you think? Did you watch The Knick? Do you think Cinemax should’ve renewed the series?
