Knight Rider: Action Series Revived with Justin Lin

Knight Rider TV show

The famous talking car is back. Deadline reports a Knight Rider reboot is in the works from digital network Machinima and director Justin Lin.

The original action show starred David Hasselhoff as Michael Knight, a high-tech crime fighter who is partnered with a smart, talking car called KITT. The NBC series ran for four seasons before ending in 1986.

There have been several followups, including the Knight Rider 2000 TV movie (1991), the Knight Rider 2010 TV movie (1994), the Team Knight Rider syndicated spin-off series (1997), and the Knight Rider pilot movie and series from 2008. Neither of the series lasted more than a season.

Earlier this year, Hasselhoff expressed interested in a Knight Rider revival. And now those dreams are a reality. Lin, who is probably most known for his work on the Fast and Furious franchiseis teaming up with Machinima for a new version of the action drama.

From Machinima CEO Chad Gutstein:

Knight Rider is an iconic franchise whose concepts of AI and autonomous vehicles were science fiction in the 1980s and are now science fact. Justin is one of the leading storytellers of his generation and we couldn’t be more excited to work with him on re-invigorating Knight Rider for a new generation of fans.”

What do you think? Are you a fan of the original Knight Rider? Would you watch the reboot?
