Knight Rider: Michael Knight Has a Son!

In September, we reported that NBC is planning to reboot the popular 1980s series Knight Rider about a modern-day crusader who drives a high-tech auto. A two-hour movie is expected to air sometime this season and, if it does well enough in the ratings, will spawn a regular series for the Fall. Plans are moving forward and producers have found a new driver.

Actor Justin Bruening has been cast as the son of Michael Knight, the title character played by David Hasselhoff in the original series. Like Hasselhoff before him, Bruening comes directly from a soap opera. He’s best known for having taken over the role of All My Children’s hunky James “Jamie” Martin in 2003. Bruening last appeared on the ABC soap on August 24, 2007.

Steve Shill will direct the Knight Rider TV movie and co-executive produce with Doug Liman and Dave Bartis for Universal Media Studios and Dutch Oven Prods. Supervising producer Dave Andron wrote the script.

It’s still unknown if either Hasselhoff or William Daniels (the original voice of high tech car KITT) will take part in the new project but it looks like a distinct possibility. Liman hinted, “I’m interested in honoring television history in any way that I can.”Stay tuned!
