Why should Chicago have all the legal drama fun? Co-creator Steven Bochco is rebooting the L.A. Law TV show with original series writer William M. Finkelstein. Bochco broke the news on the August 1 episode of The Rich Eisen Show. He expects to have the script finished in October. If it gets greenlit, they will make a pilot in late winter/early spring 2017. Explaining how the reboot came about, Bochco said, “I called my friends at FOX, because they own the show. They were very interested in having a conversation. And so Billy and I sat down and we sort of re-conceptualized what L.A. Law would look like, and be about, 30 years later.” He added that some of the original series cast could return. The cast of the original show, which ran on NBC from 1986 to 1994 included: Corbin Bernsen, Jill Eikenberry, Alan Rachins, Michael Tucker, Richard Dysart, Susan Ruttan, Blair Underwood, Larry Drake, Susan Dey, Jimmy Smits, Harry Hamlin, Michele Greene, and John Spencer.

An ensemble legal drama, the original L.A. Law revolves around the fictional Los Angeles law firm McKenzie, Brackman, Chaney and Kuzak. The firm worked on a variety of high-priced cases, but would sometimes do pro-bono work, too.
Partner Norman Chaney (Loren James) was found dead in the series premiere, a technique used to start many of the show’s episodes. Bochco created the first series with Terry Louise Fisher, who has written on shows including Cagney & Lacey, Hooperman, and the quickly cancelled 2000 Malibu Road.
