If NBC execs get their way, both The Tonight Show with Conan O’Brien and Late Night with Jimmy Fallon will be pushed back a half hour to make room for a 30 minute version of The Jay Leno Show.
Last Call with Carson Daly currently airs after Jimmy Fallon, starts at 1:36am, and runs for 29 minutes. If Carson Daly shifted, that would mean that the series would be pushed into local affiliate-owned time. The local stations may not be willing to give that up which could easily translate into Daly’s show being cancelled.
NBC Universal’s Chairman of Television Entertainment, Jeff Gaspin, said that the network values Daly but can’t guarantee his late-night show will survive.
He said, “There can be some rejiggering [with the affiliate time]. I don’t know and I don’t want to see him go anywhere else. Carson is going to be part of NBC, regardless of what happens. He had an incredibly high-rated New Year’s show this year.”
Gaspin continued, “I hope and expect we will be in the Carson Daly business, but I don’t have any more to add at the moment.”
What do you think? Will Last Call with Carson Daly survive or be left out in the cold? Would you be sorry to see it cancelled?
