Though this is a spin-off of Law & Order, this show spends more time on the characters’ lives than others in the Dick Wolf franchise. The relationship between Detectives Olivia Benson (Mariska Hargitay) and Elliot Stabler (Christopher Meloni) has become particularly emotional at times. SVU also typically contains the most controversial subject matter and frequently focuses on cases involving subjects like rape, child abuse, physician-assisted suicide, abortion, or gun control.
