Is the journey over before it begins? According to The Hollywood Reporter, HBO is scrapping their Lewis and Clark mini-series and starting from scratch with a new writer.
Casey Affleck and Matthias Schoenaerts are attached to play the two 19th century explorers.
Originally, the six-part mini-series was based on Stephen E. Ambrose’s book Undaunted Courage and written by a team of John Curran, Ed Norton, and Michelle Ashford. Now, HBO has said they are redeveloping the material with just Ashford writing. Production was underway last year until Curran and director of photography Roby Hardy left “over creative differences.”
It remains to be seen whether the previous footage will be used or if there will be recasting.
Currently, Ashford serves as showrunner for Showtime’s Master of Sex.
