TV show description:
As this comedic series begins, a small Muslim community in the fictional prairie town of Mercy, Saskatchewan (population 14,000) finally gets its own mosque. The only problem is that it’s in a church and some of the local residents become irrationally alarmed.

The mosque’s new Imam, Amaar Rashid (Zaib Shaikh), arrives from the big city to smooth things over. Unfortunately, his easy charm and progressive ways do little to convince the locals that Muslims aren’t simply a bunch of terrorists.

Yasir Hamoudi (Carlo Rota), a local contractor, made a deal with Reverend Duncan Magee (Derek McGrath) to rent office space in the church. Yasir had tried in vain to find a place for the local mosque to use so he neglected to mention to the Reverend the mosque would be using the church space as well. Though this proved to be very unpopular with some of his parishioner, Reverend Magee made a new deal so that the mosque could stay.

Yasir is married to Sarah (Sheila McCarthy), a former Anglican who works as a public relations agent in the office of Mayor Ann Popowicz (Debra McGrath). Yasir and Sarah have an adult daughter, Rayyan (Sitara Hewitt), who is a doctor.

Baber Siddiqui (Manoj Sood) is a divorced college economics professor who is also the most conservative member of the community and acted as the imam prior to Amaar’s arrival. His daughter is Layla (Aliza Vellani) an average teenage Muslim girl struggling who’s trying to find the right balance between her desire to be a good Muslim and her desire for the lifestyle of a regular teen.

Fatima Dinssa (Arlene Duncan) is a conservative Nigerian immigrant and the widowed owner of a diner. She is sarcastic and enjoys engaging in verbal sparring matches with Fred Tupper (Neil Crone), the local bigot and radio “shock jock” (who has a crush on her).

When Magee leaves, handsome and young Reverend William Thorne (Brandon Firla) takes his place.

The TV show is shown on Hulu in the United States, under the title Little Mosque.
