MacGyver is coming back to television. CBS is bringing a reboot of this series to its network at some point. The series is currently in development. The original series starred Richard Dean Anderson.
This time, the series will be directed by James Wan, who is known for his work on Saw and Furious 7 on the big screen. Wan will join R. Scott Gemmill and Henry Winkler to bring this new series to life.
Winkler was executive producer of the original 1980s series, and Gemmill is currently working on NCIS: Los Angeles. He will remain with that series this season.
According to Variety, CBS is very excited about this reboot. Their report revealed that the new MacGyver series would follow “MacGyver in his early years, as a 20-something new recruit to a clandestine organization where he hones his skills at averting disaster.”
This is not the only 1980s franchise being courted for a reboot. Just yesterday, Fox announced its plans for a Lethal Weapon reboot.
As for MacGyver, this is not the first time a potential reboot has been discussed. WB wanted to air a Young MacGyver series in the past.
