Mad Men: AMC Series Renewed for Season Four

Don Draper (Jon Hamm) and the rest of the Sterling Cooper staff are going to be able to keep up their naughty behavior for at least one more year. AMC has officially ordered a fourth season of the drama Mad Men.

The renewal doesn’t come as much of a surprise. In January, Executive Producer Matthew Weiner signed a two-year deal with Lionsgate to keep overseeing the program. The show has also become a high-profile project for the movie channel, winning multiple Emmys last year and looking to be on track to win some more later this month.

While the series continues to be a bigger success with critics than in the ratings, Mad Men’s audience has been growing. The first episode garnered just 900,000 viewers. By the time season two rolled around, viewership had grown and the second season premiere attracted 1.52 million.

Last month’s season three kick off brought in 2.8 million. The news isn’t all rosy though since the ratings have fallen off considerably. The most recent episode drew just 1.61 million. On the plus side, though the viewer numbers are small, the show’s audience is typically an upscale one.

Charlie Collier, president and general manager of AMC, said, “With this early fourth season renewal, we’re excited to let our audience know the captivating world of Sterling Cooper will be back on AMC again next year.”

Season three is scheduled to finish airing on November 8th. Like the previous seasons, year four is on track to debut next Summer.

What do you think? Is Mad Men worthy of all the critical praise or is it just hype?
