Marvel’s Jessica Jones: Netflix Showrunner Teases Season Two

Marvel's Jessica Jones TV show on Netflix: season 2 (canceled or renewed?).

SPOILERS! Expect the second of Marvel’s Jessica Jones TV show on Netflix to flesh out the ensemble players. Showrunner Melissa Rosenberg talked to Nerdist about how demanding the first season was on Krysten Ritter, who plays the titular character. The season one cast also included Rachael Taylor, Eka Darville, David Tennant, Mike Colter, Erin Moriarty, Robing Weigert, Michael Siberry, and Colby Minifie.

Rosenberg believes the key to broadening the season two canvas (and giving Ritter some small modicum of relief) is to earn the stories of the secondary characters. The showrunner tells Nerdist, “You have to flesh them out enough so they can eventually carry stories of their own, which is very much what season one was about, kind of bringing other characters… I think it’s important there be some balance.”

In the second season of Marvel’s Jessica Jones, expect to find Jessica coming to terms with Kilgrave’s (Tennant’s) last act of violation. He has controlled her mind, raped her, and even caused her to kill an innocent, while under his thrall. It was only after Jessica was able to resist his compulsion, that she willingly killed Kilgrave.

Rosenberg tosses out the word “murder” in reference to Jessica offing Kilgrave. While she has a point to be made, does the word “murder” still apply, when the person one kills has the power of mind control? This is something Jessica will undoubtedly chew over, during the second season of Marvel’s Jessica Jones.

There seem to be plenty of shades of grey in this situation. Had Kilgrave been a mundane human, then yes, snapping his neck would amount to murdering him. Given his unique abilities, it is arguable that while Jessica killed him, she did so in the ultimate aim of defending herself and others.
