M*A*S*H: Stars Comment on Super Bowl XLIV Record

If the media hype is to be believed, the telecast of Sunday’s Super Bowl XLIV beat the last episode of M*A*S*H as the most-watched program in television history. As we pointed out, it’s not exactly a fair comparison. The stars of the show seem to agree.

M*A*S*H star Alan Alda said, “If they broke our record, I’m happy for New Orleans and I hope it gives even more to cheer about to a city I love.” He wondered though, how accurate the ratings are, saying, “I know it sounds evil to mention, but how does Nielsen know how many actual people were watching either broadcast?”

In the end, Alda feels it’s hard to compare the two records. In a message to the NY Times, he wrote, “We hit it out of the park, and so did New Orleans. Do I have the sports analogy right?”

Wayne Rogers, who left M*A*S*H after three of the sitcom’s 11 years on the air, is well known to be a savvy investor and appears frequently on Cashin’ In on FOX News. Looking at it from an investing perspective, Rogers says, he’d bet on M*A*S*H.

He noted, “That Super Bowl is never going to earn what M*A*S*H earned that’s for sure, because there’s no reruns for that Super Bowl.”
