MasterChef: Season Eight Ratings

MasterChef TV show on FOX: season 8 ratings (canceled or season 9 renewal?)

When Joe Bastianich exited the MasterChef TV show after five seasons, Christina Tosi replaced him. But after Graham Elliot’s departure, season seven featured revolving guest judges. Now one of them — chef and restaurateur Aarón Sánchez — has boarded the FOX cooking competition and will judge alongside Tosi and Gordon Ramsay. Is he the perfect ingredient to elevate this unscripted TV series? Will MasterChef be cancelled or renewed for season nine? Stay tuned.

In MasterChef, season eight, the competition will kick off with 40 home cooks battling for slots in this competitive reality series. During this cycle on FOX, the home cooks will prepare live crawfish and will also cook for 50 VIP guests, to celebrate the 50th anniversary of Caesars Palace Las Vegas Hotel and Casino. In another bit of product placement, they will also create a Nutella dish. And of course, they will compete in the customary tag team and restaurant takeover challenges. Ultimately, the winner will be awarded the MasterChef title, get a cookbook deal, and claim the $250,000 grand prize.

The ratings are typically the best indication of a show’s likelihood of staying on the air. The higher the ratings (particularly in the 18-49 demo), the better the chances for survival. This chart will be updated as new ratings data becomes available — usually the next day, around 11:30am EST/8:30am PST. Refresh to see the latest.

9/21 update: You can see the rest of the latest night’s ratings.

Note: If you’re not seeing the updated chart, please try reloading the page or view it here.

For comparisons: The seventh season of MasterChef averaged a 1.25 rating in the 18-49 demographic and 4.029 million total viewers.

Note: These are the Live + Same Day Ratings which include “live” viewing plus delayed DVR viewing, up until 3am local time that same night. Ratings marked with an “*” are the fast affiliate ratings and will be updated with the Live+SD numbers when they are made available. Typically, networks get paid for C+3 ratings which includes DVR viewing within three days of the original airing when commercials are watched. Those numbers are rarely released to the press.
